Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born July 16, 1990), professionally known as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and global Afrobeats icon. He is one of the most successful and influential African artists of all time, playing a significant role in the international recognition of Afrobeats.

Wizkid gained prominence with his 2010 hit single “Holla at Your Boy” under Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E.) and has since released record-breaking albums, collaborated with global superstars, and won numerous prestigious awards, including a Grammy Award.

Early Life and Background

Wizkid was born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in a large family and developed a passion for music at an early age. Initially performing under the stage name Lil Prinz, he formed a music group with friends before pursuing a solo career.

Inspired by Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and King Sunny Ade, Wizkid refined his sound and began recording music in his teenage years. His breakthrough came when he signed with E.M.E., owned by Banky W, launching his career in 2009.
